HTC Early Childhood Centers
School Board Report – May 2010
Melissa Pieper, Director

Faith Development:

Instructional Leadership/Curriculum:

  1. All of the staff are currently working on maintaining their training hours so that we are able to keep our level 4 QRS rating.  In order to maintain this raring each staff member is required to take a certain number of trainings each year.

Public Relations/Marketing & Development:

  1. I have a copy of the full page ad that ran in a “How To” insert in the Daily Democrat.  Rich, Shelley and Donna all helped in putting this ad together.
  2. It had been discussed earlier that it might be a good idea to have onsies for newly baptized infants in the parishes.  I called Great River Screen Printing and Embroidery and found out that we could have one embroidered for $5.00 and screen printed for about $1.75.  The cost if just for the printing.  We would have to buy the onsies yet.

Building Updates-

  1. As of July 1, 2010 there will be a $15 fee for all background checks done on our employees.  These background checks need to be done every 2 years.  I will make sure that all background checks are completed before the deadline so that we will hopefully not have to pay anything until 2012.
  2. Beginning in the summer of 2011 we will have to start fingerprinting all employees.  The cost for the fingerprinting will be $30 per person plus the cost of having the fingerprints done.  DHS is looking into ways to train a staff member at each center to roll the fingerprints to cut down on some of the costs.  Hopefully they will be able to do this by next summer.

Fort Madison :

  1. Sabrina Fullenkamp was hired as the administrative assistant in Fort Madison .  She will start in June to learn the ropes and will continue throughout the summer.  Teresa has agreed to come back when school starts and help with all of that office work.
  2. Mrs. McKillip will be teaching preschool in Fort Madison on Tuesday and Thursday and Ramona Stevens (the preschool teacher from St. Paul ) will be teaching preschool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  3. The last day of preschool is this Friday, May 28th.
  4. We will be taking all of the incoming 1st graders, incoming kindergarten studnts and their parents to West Point on Thrusday May 27th to visist the classrooms and each lunch.  We have almost all of the incoming kindergartners attending the outing.

St. Paul :

  1. I hired Jessica Peitz as the associate for the St. Paul preschool.  Jessica and I are very excited about her taking this position.  She will be an excellent addition to our ECC family.  I am still in the process of hiring a preschool teacher.
  2. This Friday, May 28th, is the last day of preschool.

HTC Board of Education Report, May 24, 2010

Doris S. Turner, Administrator

Faith Development – Father Troy and Father Apo have both had their final Masses

with the 7-12 students.  Memory books were given to each.  We thank them

for their tireless support of Catholic education and HTC during their years

            of service to our parishes.

2.      The Class of 2010 had a wonderful Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation

Ceremony  on May 23.   The Catholic tradition and the message of “Christ as

one’s life role model” was clear throughout the day.  Thank you to everyone

who contributed to these events.   Mary Wieser represented Bishop Amos and the Diocese of Davenport .  She spoke at the Baccalaureate Mass.

Professional Development Iowa Core was discussed at the diocesan principals’

meeting.  The implementation plan needs to be registered with the State of

July 10.  Melissa Pieper, Sara Mohrfeld, Donna McVeigh and I met on

May 14 to discuss HTC core in relation to Diocesan, State, and AEA

support.  I will be meeting with Ron Glasgow (Notre Dame principal)

on June 3 to coordinate implementation.  Holy Trinity will implement the

Iowa Core Curriculum at all grade levels for the 2011 – 2012 school year if

possible. The State is requesting implementation of the Iowa Core for the

           2011 – 2012 school year for grades 9 – 12 and by 2014 for the lower level.

2.      The Early Out on May 19 had teachers working on Iowa Core. Teachers

were also given time to update their individual professional development

plans.

Instructional Leadership, Programs Linda Reding has been working on the

master teaching schedule for the next school year.  We have a draft that

is very close to completion.  The schedule was generated from data garnered

from student schedule requests, teacher endorsements/contracts, anticipated

enrollment, etc.  Donna McVeigh trained teachers to guide students in

course requests earlier this semester (using JMC programs)  Our goal is to

get more and more information computer generated.

2.      Spring BEDS is complete. I will wait until the last day of student attendance to certify the report.

3.      Mr. Tim Roush has signed his teaching contract for the 2010 – 2011 school

year.  With the resignation of Bob Soule, Mrs. Otte has accepted a contract for full-band, grades 5 – 12 for the 2010 – 2011 school year.

Building Upgrades, etc. – Brad and Ray will have updates for the various buildings

           and summer plans.

Public Relations, Parent Communications

1.      Tom Mershman will be presenting information on 3rd and 4th grade tackle football league and asking to use the 7-12 soccer field in Ft. Madison .  He met with Mr. Goetz and I and we have given him our

expectations.

Other information:  We will read in the names of those who have accepted  non-certified positions.
