HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, INC. Board of Education Meeting February 22, 2010
The regular meeting of the Holy Trinity Catholic School Board was called to order at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2010, by Vice President Brad Box at Holy Trinity Elementary Library in West Point . Fr. Apo led the prayer.
Roll Call: Present: Fr. Apo, Fr. Beckman, Brad Box; Jeff Denning, Tom Gregg, Loren Holtkamp, Gary Hoyer, Craig Pieper, Roy Tinguely. Absent: Fr. Spring. Ray Menke and Fr. Richmond arrived late.
Agenda: No changes. Motion to approve the agenda and to go to Executive Session to discuss personnel and financial matters by Gary Hoyer, second by Craig Pieper. Motion carried. The meeting reconvened in Open Session at 7:40 p.m.
Minutes: The minutes of the Januaryr regular meeting were approved on a motion by Gary Hoyer, second by Tom Gregg. Motion carried.
Welcome Guests/Comments from Audience/Open Forum: No comments from guests.
Old Business: None to discuss.
New Business:
Technology Plan: The school’s Technology Committee has been actively seeking the best ways to implement and maintain technology in all grade levels. In conjunction, Drake Hardware & Software has offered a contract for service work at all centers which the 2010-11 budget will accommodate. Motion by Gary Hoyer, second by Brad Box, to proceed with the contract. Motion carried.
2010-11 Budget: The Budget Committee recommended approval of the 2010-11 budget totaling $2,566,068, down $74,000 from 2009-10. Motion by Craig Pieper, second by Tom Gregg, to approve the budget subject to approval by the parishes’ finance councils. Motion carried.
2010-11 Tuition: Motion by Gary Hoyer, second by Craig Pieper, to approve the 2010-11 tuition schedule as recommended by the Budget Committee and subject to approval by the parishes’ finance councils. Tuition will increase by just over 3% at each grade level, the book/activity fee will be rolled into the tuition to qualify for STO funding, the 2nd child will pay 75% of full tuition and the 3rd child will pay 50% of full tuition with a Tuition Discount Threshold of $6,500. Additionally, the minimum charge for 4th and 5th children in the family will be $775 for grades K-6 and $825 for grade 7-12. The non-parish fee will be $700 for each student. Preschool tuition will also increase by an average of 3%. Motion carried.
Spring Sports Contracts: Doris Turner recommended that the following persons be offered contracts for coaching spring sports: Boys’ Golf – Steve Rung; Girls’ Golf – Melissa Freesmeier; Boys’ Varsity Soccer – Doug Petersen; Girls’ Varsity Soccer – Michael Sheerin; Boys’ & Girls’ Tennis – Kelly Sanders & Linda Reding; Junior High Soccer – Bob Schierbrock; Junior High Track – Paul Wilkerson. Motion to approve by Craig Pieper, second by Gary Hoyer. Motion carried.
Administrative Reports:
Religious Education: Written report submitted.
Early Childhood Centers: Written report submitted. Melissa Pieper reported that Kindergarten Round-ups are scheduled for Fort Madison and West Point . There are currently 20 potential students signed up.
Elementary Education: Written report submitted.
Technology Report: Written report submitted.
Junior-Senior High School/Chief Administrator: Doris Turner’s written report was reviewed. She also informed the board of Holy Trinity’s award from Today’s Catholic Teacher magazine for Innovation in the Merger Process.
Development Director: No report.
Business Manager: A list of invoices to be paid was presented. Motion to approve by Gary Hoyer, second by Craig Pieper. Motion carried.
Committee Reports:
Buildings & Grounds: Brad Box is going to talk with J.J. Nichting Co. about trading in the mover at the high school again this year. The cost to upgrade is expected to be $500.00.
Athletics: Craig Pieper asked for confirmation that the school will contribute to the cost of stripping and refinishing the gym floor in the amount it would have spent for routine summer cleaning of the floor. The board was in agreement with that arrangement.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m. on a motion by Brad Box, second by Fr. Apo. Motion carried.
