Crusaders Superior at District Speech Tournament

The Holy Trinity speech team returned from the Iowa High School Speech Association district tournament in Keokuk on Saturday, February 23rd with twenty-one superior ratings.

The Crusaders were led by junior Andy Olson, who received top mark in Public Address and Poetry Interpretation.  Four Sophomores advanced to the state tournament with top scores in two events: Paige Hansen in Acting ad Literary Program, Sarah Liebert in Acting and Prose Interpretation, Rachel Ferguson in Storytelling and Prose Interpretation, and Sabrina Menke in Literary Program and Poetry Interpretation.  Freshman Elizabeth Barr earned a trip to the state tournament in both Acting and Radio News Announcing.

Senior Jacquelyn Knustrom was rated superior in Public Address, as were juniors Alisha Saathoff in Expository Address, Jena Vonderhaar in Storytelling, and Megan Burk in Acting.  Sophomore Katherine Schierbrock was also rated superior in Acting.

Freshman team members brought home four more division one ratings, including Allison Sporkman in Public Address, Madelyn Orton in Expository Address, Maggie Baker in Prose Interpretation, and Rachel Mehmert in the category of Storytelling.

Division two scores of excellent went to senior Jamie Meierotto and sophomore Chris Schierbrock, both in Radio News Announcing.

The Crusaders will travel next to the state tournament in Vinton/Shellsburg on March 9th.  The Holy Trinity speech team is coached by Robert Rippenkroeger.
